Rex Pilbeam: Time Traveller | AIR WIP reading

Jodie van de Wetering_RMOA AIR_web banner.jpg

Join local playwright, Jodie van de Wetering and Midpoint Theatre Company for a reading of selected scenes from their new play, Rex Pilbeam: Time Traveller.

The work was developed by van de Wetering through their 2024 artistic residency at RMOA. Inspired by works from the collection, Rex Pilbeam: Time Traveller reimagines Rockhampton’s longest serving mayor in the modern day. It examines how worldviews fuel our actions and how that can change as we discover new ideas.

We’ve all deserved to be cancelled at some point or other.

But at what point is someone beyond redemption, and when do they deserve the grace to grow and change – to do better when they know better?

About Jodie van de Wetering

Jodie van de Wetering is a writer, performer and generator of creative chaos based in Rockhampton. Their laid-back storytelling style and sardonic wit is inspired by bush poets and yarnspinners, by growing up with repeats of Doctor Who and The Goodies as babysitters, and being the generation that started school with rotary-dial phones and graduated with MySpace accounts. Jodie’s work reflects their confusing tangle of identities: neurodivergent, nonbinary, disabled, a solidly working class second-generation Australian, a hopeful dreamer and a grumpy grouch.
